Introduction to Our Mission, Values, and Team

Mmere Dane Counseling was established in 2022 to create a mental health practice rooted in compassion, cultural humility, and clinical excellence. Based in Dumfries, Virginia, our mission is to provide accessible, evidence-based, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive mental health services to individuals, teens (14+), couples, families, and professionals in our community and beyond. We believe mental health care should be a safe place to process life’s most difficult experiences—whether that is anxiety, depression, addiction, identity-related stress, or the fallout of complicated relationships.

Our name, Mmere Dane, evokes nurture, care, and support. We bring these values not just as words, but as the principles that shape our clinical practice: respect for diversity, attention to systems of power and oppression that impact wellbeing, and a commitment to practical, skills-based therapies that help clients thrive.

Why Our Approach Matters

Evidence-based practice

Therapists use empirically supported treatments—such as CBT, trauma-focused approaches, and motivational enhancement for substance use—tailored to each person’s needs.

Trauma-informed care

We recognize the widespread impact of trauma and avoid re-traumatizing practices. Safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, and empowerment guide our work.

Cultural humility

Our clinicians practice ongoing self-reflection and learning to understand clients’ cultural experiences, including race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and other identity factors.

Client empowerment

Therapy is a collaborative process. We equip clients with skills, psychoeducation, and resources so they can manage symptoms and make meaningful life changes.

Meet Our Clinicians and Staff

Our team includes licensed therapists, clinicians-in-training under supervision, and administrative staff who prioritize confidentiality and client-centered scheduling. Clinicians at Mmere Dane Counseling bring diverse backgrounds and specialties including anxiety, PTSD, addiction, family therapy, identity-focused therapy, and more.

Each clinician completes rigorous training in trauma-informed methods and cultural competency. We welcome clinicians and trainees who align with our values and provide internships and supervision to prepare the next generation of mental health professionals.
